Mapu Preto“O som da Terra” - Handcrafted clay speakers
Production methods are in crisis on a global level. Traditional handicrafts, as well as the sound industry, have lost competitiveness to low-cost mass-production abroad. Production is often outsourced to countries with lower working and environmental standards, leading towards economic, political and social injustice. Meanwhile, the demand of the consumer for transparency, ethical production and authentic origin of products is growing.
O SOM DA TERRA Documentary Design redesigns the way speakers are made. They will fuse Portuguese regional, organic materials and ancestral traditions with Danish acoustics expertise, to bring together crafts and technology, and competences from the North and South of Europe in ways previously unseen. Their speakers have the highest acoustic standards, while the hands that create them and the fire in the kiln leave their traces making every speaker a unique, numbered piece of art. They use as many natural, eco-effective materials as possible, and plant one native tree for every speaker that we sell.
